36 indicted on drug charges in Colorado

Thirty-six people have been indicted on a variety of drug charges in Western Colorado. According to authorities, the grand jury indictments are the result of a joint investigation that involved the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Western Colorado Drug Task Force and the Two Rivers Drug Enforcement Team (TRIDENT).

According to local and federal law enforcement officers, the alleged drug ring was trafficking pounds of cocaine and methamphetamine in Colorado. The drugs were supposedly brought to Colorado from Mexico.

Court documents state the alleged drug ring was operating in Garfield and Mesa counties and law enforcement agencies used various surveillance methods to gather evidence. These methods included informants, wiretaps, and “pole” cameras.

Many of the 36 people indicted have been arrested, with the alleged leader of the drug ring being held on a $1 million bond. The 44-year-old male is currently incarcerated at the Mesa County Jail on multiple drug charges, as well as charges for conspiracy and racketeering. There are still several of the indicted individuals who have not been arrested, although the exact number is not known.

The 49-page indictment listed several addresses where alleged drug transactions took place, many of which involved very large quantities of methamphetamines and cocaine. In addition, there were reportedly trips made to Kansas, Georgia, and Nevada to pick up more illegal drugs, according to court records. Authorities say the drugs were then allegedly broken into smaller amounts and distributed to the ring’s network of dealers. These dealers would sell the drugs to individuals, with some drug sales reportedly occurring in a Clifton, Colorado McDonald’s.
