Felony Investigation Process

Facing a felony investigation is nothing less than terrifying. Oftentimes, people mistakenly believe that if they simply provide the information law enforcement is requesting, everything will go away. Police officers have great latitude in investigating a case and will misrepresent, mislead and misinform in an attempt to lock you into a story and build their case. Once a law enforcement official believes he or she has enough probable cause to charge you with a crime under Colorado law, the case will be presented to the District Attorney for a filing determination.

If the District Attorney believes more information is necessary, they will direct the officer to continue the investigation. If a case is accepted for filing, a warrant will be issued by the Court for your arrest. You will not be released until you have posted a bond set by the Court.
